Position Description:

Position Overview: Market Manager

The Market Manager is a market-based role responsible for building revenue growth and developing and sustaining strong hotel partner relationships within the assigned market in an effort to gain inventory for all Expedia brands. This includes negotiating favorable inventory rates and allocations at property level and driving key activities that support Expedia’s revenue goals and strategic objectives. The core focus for this position is to drive revenue for a defined area through managing a portfolio of local lodging suppliers in their market in an effort to build a sustainable long term relationship resulting in superior revenue results and inventory supply.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver revenue and/or acquisition goals through management of inventory, rates and supplier relations through negotiation of best inventory and most strategically competitive rates in assigned market. Secure inventory through on-going account management during acquisition and renewal
  • Negotiate and secure market deals, promotions and dynamic rate rules. Coordinate with Point of Sale (POS) to leverage merchandising opportunities and offerings
  • Evaluate market trends and competitor activity and provide analysis and recommendations to management
  • Develop and sustain strong partner relationships by delivering superior consulting services and capturing marketing and sales opportunities through regular partner contact and delivering value added services
  • Provide meaningful performance reporting analysis to partners at the property level to implement win-win solutions in order for the partner and Expedia to achieve market performance and long-term activity goals
  • Develop and drive sound recommendations/action plans based on insights from data analysis to optimize partner hotels in the Expedia market place and their lodging market overall
  • Develop a strong network and relationships within the local market in order to leverage appropriate market influencers (e.g. congress and tourism bureau, hotel association, etc.) and provide expertise to the local industry
  • Promote Expedia’s full suite of products offerings and key initiatives to partners and educate them on the full use of our products and tools
  • Act as liaison between partners and other Expedia functional areas to train and educate partners on the various Expedia tools, connectivity solutions, payment and billing alternatives and other partner facing Expedia systems or services
  • Coordinate with other Expedia teams and functional areas to create and implement innovative business solutions aimed at building a strong market presence, merchandising, and attractive value propositions
  • Lead the development and execution of overall market business plans, and ensure Expedia has a long-term business strategy to deepen our position in the assigned market/territory
  • Provide coaching to colleagues (peers, Associate Market Managers, and Market Associates) on best practices
  • Other reasonable duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

Work Experience and Education Guidelines:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Effectively consult with hotel partners to secure competitive rates and deliver improved metrics; improve product competitiveness through effective price renegotiations
  • Evaluate market trends and competitor activity; provide the Market Management team with analysis and recommendations for potential actions and next steps
  • This includes, but is not limited to: analyzing market competitiveness reporting, prioritizing daily/weekly hotel calls, reporting and tracking progress of programs and initiatives and analyzing their impact on market performance

Manage promotional campaigns in market, including pitching promotional opportunities to partners and soliciting deals from hotels Work with Market Management team to develop and implement strategies which ensure competitive pricing Maintain constant communication with Market Managers to ensure consistency of communications, partner messaging and implementation and execution of market strategies Develop and share best practices with Market Associate and Market Management teams to help optimize market competitiveness Review the quality of rates and inventory on Expedia sites against competitors Support Market Management team with the development and delivery of partner communications Assist the Market Management team in prospecting new hotels and/or regional chains Participate in contract negotiations as needed Support the process of onboarding a new partner upon acquisition of a new property Lead ad hoc projects to improve product competitiveness and support productive revenue generation efforts in the market they support; this could include, but is not limited to: implementation of new systems, work processes and/or technologies, adoption of new initiatives, gathering information regarding Expedia’s competition in a market, etc. Demonstrate the energy & drive to be a part of one of the most exciting teams within Expedia Inc.

Position Description: Purpose of the Position:  

 To increase profits by increasing room sales and generating business through aggressive sales efforts. 

  Responsibilities:  

 1.                  Know your work schedule and follow it with a high degree of reliability.

 7.                  Implement management company and hotelâ s safety and emergency policies and procedures (i.e. evacuation, first aid, etc.) to include removing all safety hazards, following companyâ s OSHA Hazcom program and safe lifting techniques.  

 8.                  Utilize protective equipment, when applicable.  

 9.                  Promptly report substandard (unsafe) conditions to supervisor.  

 10.              Promptly report accidents, injuries, property damage or loss to supervisor.  

 11.              Keep accurate communication flowing freely among all hotel departments.  

 12.              Inform management promptly of any work-related problems or guest complaints.  

 13.              Practice â aggressive hospitalityâ  and provide guest satisfaction.  

 14.              Promote the hotel through goodwill, courtesy and a positive attitude.  

 15.              Attend all scheduled training classes and meetings.  

 16.              Train and supervise other associates as directed by management.  

 17.              Continue to learn and grow in your position.    

 18.              Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management.  

 19.              Provide for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules.

 Essential Job Functions:  

 1.                  Know all emergency procedures (fire, severe, weather, bomb threats, guest accident/illness, etc.)  

 2.                  Be knowledgeable of sell all product lines of the hotel including catering, rooms, packages (if applicable), lounge and restaurant promotion.  

 3.                  Conduct a successful, aggressive solicitation process involving outside sales calls, inside appointments, telephone calls, individual letter and direct mail.  As a pro-active sales manager, 80% (eighty) of time is to be spent in active sales solicitation.  Responsible for maintaining a sale quota as assigned by DOS.  

 4.                  Assist the Director of Sales in the preparation of the annual marketing plan, including the action plans covering assigned market segments.  

 5.                  Understand the wants and needs of the market segments assigned.  

 6.                  Document the wants and needs of customers in the sales files.  

 7.                  Maintain a documented record of all solicitation action steps in the sales file.  

8.                  Maintain accurate and current mailing lists for all accounts in individual areas of responsibility. 

 9.                  Trace each file for the most effective date for follow-up.  

 10.              Send proposals on all leads which fit the profile of property and actively follow through to convert from proposal to definite status.  

 11.              Send proposals and confirmations to clients immediately upon holding space.  

 12.              Clearly outline on booking sheets clientâ s room block requirements, suite requirements, meeting and banquet space requirements so that the accurate facilities may be reserved.      

 13.              Obtain, document and route all necessary information on definite groups, including billing information, credit application, rooming list and VIP arrangements.  Details on meeting arrangements, menus, audio-visual arrangements, etc., should be documented and passed on to catering manager for follow-up.  

 14.              Maintain total and complete sensitivity to customer satisfaction and guestsâ  needs.  

 15.              Assist the Director of Sales on special projects as assigned. 

 16.              Maintain professional attitude and appearance and management decorum in dealing with all other departments in the hotel. 

 17.              Prepare all weekly and monthly reports as required by the Director of Sales.  

 18.              Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Sales.  

 19.              Follow-up on meetings being held at competitive hotels and try to secure the account for own property.  

 20.              Responsible for preparing and providing the DOS with weekly sales call reports and weekly itineraries of planned sales calls to potential customers.  

 21.              Maintain a weekly sales quota of outside calls, all telemarketing calls and site inspections as assigned by Regional Director of Sales and Marketing.  

 Marginal Functions:  

 1.                  Assist kitchen personnel by plating up food for functions, if applicable.  

 2.                  Assist Banquet Department by setting rooms up according to requirements, if applicable.  

ApplicantRequirements: Job Knowledge, Skills and other Responsibilities:   

1.    Able to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written form with guests and associates so as to respond accurately and completely to people to give directions, instructions, information, answer questions and provide service as required.  

2.                  Talk and listen to clients demonstrating excellent sales skills by knowing and selling product in a professional and courteous manner.   

3.                  Accurately prepare plans for functions by writing clear requests for each affected department.   

4.                  Have a basic knowledge of local and national trends regarding business.  

5.                  Travel to local and national areas to attend seminars/functions which may involve being away from home for several days at a time.  

6.                  Lift approximately ten (10) pounds.   

7.                  Basic math skills to accurately prepare budget and compute rate and profit information.   

8.                  Good written and verbal communication skills.  

9.                  Sit, stand or walk for varying lengths of time, sometimes for prolonged periods.
